In August 2026, Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth became the first woman pilot of the Indian Air Force to complete the 20-week Fighter Combat Leader course at the Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE) in Gwalior. Only about one per cent of IAF pilots are selected for it. TACDE is the IAF's Top Gun school, developing air combat tactics and validating new fighter aircraft, radars and weapon systems before operational deployment.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new office of the National Urban Co-operative Finance and Development Corporation (NUCFDC) in the Fort area of Mumbai on 8 August 2026. He announced there that the NUCFDC headquarters would be shifted from Delhi to Maharashtra, which has the highest number of urban cooperative banks in the country at 449, with Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Karnataka together accounting for about 70 per cent of UCBs. NUCFDC is an RBI-registered NBFC.

Explanation

On 7 August 2026, ten captive-bred vultures were soft-released from the Jatayu Soft Release Centre at Tewaripal in Biswanath district, Assam. The batch had five Slender-billed and five White-rumped Vultures, both critically endangered. Brought from the Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre at Rani, they were acclimatised for three months and fitted with colour rings and GSM-GPS transmitters. The programme is run by the Assam Forest Department, Kaziranga and the Bombay Natural History Society.
